We spent the last weekend in July in the NC mountains, staying in a cabin that was 3/4 mile up a gravel road with a few hundred feet elevation increase.
We didn’t know it at the time, but what was basically the driveway was a steep incline with not insignificant ruts in either tire track.
It would have been a cakewalk in the WJ but not knowing that in advance, we took her car, a 2011 Kia Forte hatch.
I was able to let my inner redneck shine as I “hey y’all watch this”’d my way up the driveway every time, but the steering began to feel heavy when turning right. The pressure was fine when I checked it, maybe not spot on, but close. Finally, today, some three weeks later, the low tire light comes on.
The steering in that car is surprisingly communicative for an econo hatch.
Anything like that ever happen to you?

I drove the 4Runner to work two days last week, and nothing went wrong at work. I predicted something would be broken on it when I got back. I was correct.

Constantly, but 5/7 vehicles of mine don’t “do” warning lights.

I felt and heard my wheel bearing failing for about 1000 miles before it welded itself together and the wheel fell off. Does that count?

Nice collection. I've wanted to acquire an e39 myself.

Kind of? That must have been interesting.

They’re all kind of rough, except the nicest one (the Scion) which is my track car (because I make poor decisions)
The E39 is fantastic, probably the most well rounded car I’ve owned. Pretty damn good at everything. It’s comfortable, handles well, scares mustangs from a dig, reliable (ish), and has a surprising amount of features you still don’t see today on lesser cars. I highly recommend one if you are the kind of person who knows which end of a screwdriver to use.

Well I like to think I’m not completely incompetent.
I must ask, how does one insure that many cars/bikes?

Insurance companies are smart, they know you can only pilot one vehicle at a time so each vehicle I add increases my multi vehicle discount. I end up right around $1500 anually for everything (a ticket or two on my record, and the Scion is the only one with collision) not bad overall!

On the highway late at night. Hear a strange sound from the drivers side front. Drop from 70 to 50. A few seconds later, pop, tire exploded. Kept control of the car no problem. Had I been going faster, maybe a different story.

That SHOULD be an easy fix. I had a starter go out on my '94 many moons ago and I would just keep turning the key to start it until it managed to start. Did that for a few weeks until I could afford to fix it. Toyotas man.

Nice! Well, nice that you perceived the change and were able to mitigate the danger.

The starter is fine enough, I just hope it’s not the alternator. There are too many vacuum lines to dela with under there for me to want to fix anything around the engine.

Yeah...my cars aren’t very modern. What’s TPMS? Some kind of disease?

Heard the noise of whistling leaves/running over them on the road, looked in the rear view mirror and saw none, went “eh whatever”. Look down 1 mile later to see the charging light being on, “eh whatever, finally it’s shit the bed”. another 2 miles go by, “gee, the temp’s pretty damn high, guess i’ll pull off to inspect”
And then began the wrestle of a non-powersteer assisted car because the alt+waterpump+powersteering belt was what had let go with that weird noise. Oops!
